TREND SPOTTING....Children's 2011 Spring Fashions

Saige Nicoles - 2011 spring fashionsTREND SPOTTING....Children's 2011 Spring Fashions

This spring, children’s boutique clothing designers reach deep into the archives of cherished childhood memories to create looks reminiscent of years gone by. Taking their cue from classic storybook favorites like Dick and Jane and Peter Rabbit, quality details and workmanship unlike those seen in recent years, dominate and are high on the list of importance to savvy parents. Eco-friendly, sustainable fabrics also continue to grow in popularity as parents become more eco-conscious in every aspect of life.
Girls' looks include, brightly colored prints evocative of the 70’s like those found in the popular children’s clothing line, Decaf Plush and delicate floral prints in soft pastels characteristic of Victorian-era style found this season in the spring collection by Right Bank Babies.
This spring, boy’s clothing is more traditional with an increase in popularity for boy’s blazers (Tom and Drew Boys), stylish collared button-up shirts (Captain Monkey Boy) and a modern approach to ‘dressing-up’ with appliquéd tie shirts for boys (Fat-Tie). Basic shorts and graphic tees remain popular (Tom and Drew Boys); have a fresh, coordinated look that can easily be layered to take active boys from warm sunny days into chilly spring nights.
Heirloom quality clothing regains popularity for infants and toddlers and hand-embroidered, hand-smocked frocks are highly desirable with the idea that pieces can be handed down from sibling to sibling and from one generation to the other. (Alejandra Kearl, Poeme and Poisies and Petit Trousseau - coming soon)
Clothing made with eco-friendly and organic fabrics continue to grow in popularity as more parents become ‘green-conscious’. Popular lines include; Livie and Luca shoes, Empress Arts and The House of Lux. Each design house has mastered using reclaimed fabrics, repurposed materials or natural and organic fabrics creating children’s clothing and accessories that is still beautiful, whimsical and appropriate for the innocence of children.
